Mayaguez, Puerto Rico: Having a pool inside your home is certainly a luxury however when you have grandchildren it quickly becomes a liability. We recenty did a job for a nice couple in Mayaguez that has an older Yorkie that does not see well and can hardly see (the Yorkie is 15 years old ). The initial call and order was for a pet fence. The more we discussed the purpose of the fence, the more the importance became for the height to be a standard four feet as the home owners are expecting to get news that a grandchild is on the way any day now. What is a fence without a gate? The couple ordered two gates as one needed to be accessible for the far side of the pool and balcony while the other gate needed to allow access the pool for cleaning and maintainence. The pet fence had actually become a "planning for grandkids" fence.

Guaynabo, Puerto Rico: It seems that the busy season for pool safety is upon us here in Puerto Rico. The holidays are now well past us and the temperature is starting to rise back up to the level to warrant the using of the pool again. Certainly most pools probably do not have a form of safety protection because it is not required by law like it is in Florida and several othere states in the U.S. mainland. Though it is not a law, now is certainly the time to think about making your pool safe. Newly built pool, old pool or a house that you just purchased with an existing pool, if you have kids, grandkids or there are kids in the vicinity, then you have the responsibility to provide at least one layer of protection from an accident. It happens every year here in Puerto Rico between March and June, there are a couple of incidents where a child almost drowns or drowns. These accidents are preventable as long as the pool owner takes a proactive stance and responsibility. There are many different options for pool safety. Pool safety fences, pool safety nets, pool safety covers and automatic pool covers. The economy is tough but can you really affort not to protect your pool?
